CJ Nelson Designs Outlier Two Plus One Thunderbolt Red Surfboard
The OUTLIER PLUS from CJ Nelson Designs is one of the most functional designs of the "shortboard revolution" re-worked by CJ and Ryan. A true speed hull that puts feel and rider enjoyment first, this board is a life changer. Digging into the history books, referencing MP, Nat, and all of the transition-era sliders we picked up where they left off and applied our modern knowledge to make this functional beauty. If you're looking to size down from your longboard or looking for a one-board quiver to travel the world with, there's not a better surfboard to fulfill your needs. Works best in waist high to well over head surf!
"I ride the OUTLIER PLUS constantly in just about everything. One of my favorite feeling surfboards of all time. The two plus one version I built specifically to excel in subpar conditions. If it's a little funky or windy, I always enjoy my surfs because of their design. If you can imagine a mid-length-fish hybrid…???….haha….this is it." —CJ Nelson

Product Construction
Thunderbolt Technology
Thunderbolt Technology utilizes advanced materials and technology to decrease weight while enhancing performance, flex characteristics, board control, and durability. Mass-produced epoxy boards are corky and stiff. While light and durable, they simply don’t ride well. But Thunderbolt’s hand-built boards take superior epoxy materials to an entirely different level. These boards provide the feel and sensitivity of a good poly board but deliver performance far beyond traditional epoxy pop-out constructions. Indeed, those who ride these high-tech epoxy boards claim they actually feel better than polyurethane. Thunderbolt boards are 100% hand layups. They begin with an EPS foam core with multi-component carbon fiber stringer systems that produce engineered flex and twist for a more lively, responsive performance. Proprietary designs employing internal carbon fiber components are then arrayed in the deck and bottom of the deck for precise flex control and strength. The core shield PVC provides flexible protection to increase strength and durability without compromising the flex and twist characteristics built into the blank. With ample carbon fiber and fiberglass in the deck, bottom, and rails, these boards both outperform and outlast traditional PU boards and other epoxy designs.
Thunderbolt Red
There are 3 construction types within the Thunderbolt Technology. Thunderbolt Red is handcrafted using an all-around fiberglass lamination. The bottom laminations are 6 and 2-oz. layers while the deck lamination is 6 and 4-ounces. The handcrafted result is a competition weight and flex longboard.
Additional Info
"The 7’ Outlier is the smaller, looser little brother of the original range. When I came up with this concept I was going for a small mid-length that would excel in smaller waves. I pulled out the tail and overall width a bit to give it some added skate for dealing with slow sections. The added curve also lets it fit into tighter spots on the wave face really letting it shine when the surf is undesirable -almost operating like a “groveler” or fish. We also added some side bites to stabilize it and give it a little more drive. Mega fast and looser than ever the 7’ Outlier rides like a dream." —CJ Nelson
